POWERFUL – BALANCED – LIGHT WEIGHT – RIGID – AERODYNAMIC

We are proud to announce the PPC Surge wing! After months of development, we are very confident PPC have nailed what a high performance wing should be.

The Pacific Paddle Co. goal was to design a wing which is light weight and balanced, while still being incredibly rigid and powerful, not flexing and folding with stronger wind conditions and jumping.

Through vigorous testing & prototyping PPC figured out exactly where a wing needs strength / rigidity and where the wing needs to be tapered to enhance airflow.

The combination of the unique leading edge thicknesses / shape gives this wing incredible structure, a real ‘hang-glide’ feel in the air that lets you float to a soft landing. The PPC Wing flies like a kite when surfing waves, making it super easy to manage.

With carefully placed handles on this incredibly high performance wing, we know we have a wing with the characteristics a GREAT wing should have.

Available Colour: Yellow / Dark Green

Surge 4.8

Already have the 3.8. Love it.
Got the 4.8 for lighter wind. I'm 64kg so don't need anything bigger.

PPC 4.8m Wing

Review based on about 7 sessions in light and strong winds.

BAG: Simple but brilliant with the zipper that goes around allowing easy access to whole bag.

INFLATION SYSTEM: Not as simple and easy/quick to inflate as the Ensis wings however it does allow for a solid inflation of the centre strut (being separate inflation point from the leading edge). Deflation is great as the air can easily escape from both chambers through the inflate points.

HANDLES: Nice and solid and easy to locate in gybes and tacks. Placement of front handle is great and rear handles also good though I much prefer the wider handles on the Ensis wings to allow slight shifts in positioning. The very front handle on the leading edge feels soft but still works when flagging out the wing. Handles work my hands harder than the Ensis handles I am used to.

CANOPY+: Does not have the same tension at the front like the Ensis wings. Bothered me when looking at it but concerns left when using the wing. Canopy remains stable even in big gusts and the 4.8 feels to be a powerful wing for its size. The stiffness of the leading edge makes it great for pumping up in lighter winds and creates some good power with each pump. When dropping the wing onto the front handle while hopping onto some swells; the wing feels like it wants to flip but does not and sits perfectly neutral when riding the swell.

OVERALL: The wing goes to windward well and feels nice on all points of sail. I have started to use the very back handle at times though a wider handle would be better for me as I would like the middle of the two rear handles position wise. Could just be that I have been on Ensis wings the past 10 months. The wing behaves well in stronger winds but that is not what I bought it for as I prefer/change to a smaller wing if the wind comes up. I find it a great wing at the bottom end also. The canopy fills nicely as it attaches the air flow. Wind range is a hard one for me to comment on as I feel it is dependent on many things, body weight and foil size just to mention two. For me, no regrets on the purchase :)
